UCI Track Champions League

Having been a part of the inaugural UCI Track Champions League (UCI TCL) in 2021, Sport Science Agency again joined the UCI and Discovery Sports Events for the 2022 edition late last year.

The 2022 event welcomed over 18,000 spectators to five events across Europe, as the world’s best riders competed in more than 150 races and 12 hours of competitive bike racing.

Building on the success of 2021, SSA undertook an enhanced role in 2022, with additional responsibilities for the end to end data and management of the team of over 25 professionals who were involved in delivering the data experience to tell the performance story of track cycling. This again involved working closely with Discovery Sports Events and Global Data Partner AWS, to enhance the offering for millions of viewers around the world.

LIVE TV

The TV output of 2022 produced and transmitted UCI TCL action globally across 20 international broadcasters to networks in six continents and covering more than 80 countries worldwide.

The Sport Science Agency were on site at each of the five events, helping the host broadcaster to develop content to enhance the live offering to viewers at home, with enhanced graphics and data-led insight incorporated into the live TV feed. Working with both the data partners and the TV director, the team selected the appropriate content to appear on the TV feed to provide context to the rider’s performances.

 
 

SOCIAL OUTPUT

 

The UCI TCL attracted a fanbase of over 65,000 engaged fans on social, with action from the TV feeds repurposed to enhance the stories told on social channels across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The insight and context provided by Sport Science Agency, helped secure over 50m impressions, using live Speed, Power and Heart Rate data to provide a deeper depth of knowledge and improve understanding of the superhuman effort that goes into elite track cycling.

 
 

THE RESULTS

Expanded to five events from four, the 2022 UCI TCL secured a stronger association between fans and the action on the track. The number of social interactions and live tv viewers demonstrate a strong relationship with a developing race format.

Through transforming live data into informed content, SSA was able to provide informative and interesting output that engaged a more knowledgeable audience.
