UCI Track Champions League

In 2021, Discovery Sports Events launched the UCI Track Champions League (UCI TCL), an innovative new approach to track cycling. The UCI TCL brought together the top 72 riders in the world with competitions for Men’s Endurance, Men’s Sprint, Women’s Endurance, and Women’s Sprint. Unlike other track cycling events, this one was designed with the spectator experience at the heart of the competition. A significant part of that experience was the innovative use of performance data to tell the performance story of track cycling.

Working with Discovery Sports Events and Global Data Partner AWS, Sport Science Agency was at the heart of defining the roadmap for delivering performance data via the TV feed and app.

THE DATA ROADMAP

Sport Science Agency worked closely with the teams at Discovery Sport Events and AWS to define a data roadmap that will see spectators taken on a journey of understanding the super human effort that goes into elite track cycling. In Season 1 the focus was on Speed, Power and Heart Rate with subsequent seasons adding deeper insight.

LIVE TV

In addition to developing the data roadmap for the UCI TCL, members of the Sport Science Agency team were on site at the live events to define the content that appeared on the live TV feed. Working with both the data partners and the TV director, the team selected the appropriate content to appear on the TV feed to provide context to the rider’s performances.

THE RESULTS

The UCI TCL was watched in 206 countries and territories by a cumulative audience of 125.8M who viewed over 9.6M hours of track cycling. Each of those viewers would have seen rider performance data, many for the first time.
