Marker Diagnostics is an innovator in the field of concussion diagnosis, developing cutting-edge salivary biomarker testing to enhance safety across sport and the wider community. As a company navigating complex regulatory landscapes while breaking ground in medical research, Marker needed a partner that could not only communicate their value to sporting audiences but do so with credibility and scientific clarity.

the challenge

Marker Diagnostics operates in one of the most sensitive and complex areas of sport science: concussion diagnostics. The company had developed a pioneering test that utilises small, non-coding RNA biomarkers capable of supporting the diagnosis of concussion in a non-invasive and objective way. But bringing that innovation to market, particularly in elite and grassroots sport, requires trust, credibility, and a clearly defined communication strategy.

Marker needed a marketing partner who understood both the science and the sporting landscape, and could work within the strict regulatory frameworks surrounding medical diagnostics. More than just generating visibility, the goal was to establish Marker as a credible, respected and valuable partner to elite sporting organisations, governing bodies and across the wide spectrum of grassroots and community athletics.

Sport Science Agency became a strategic partner across brand, communications and partnership delivery. Drawing on our internal sport science expertise, we worked as an embedded extension of the Marker team, reducing the need for long onboarding or education.

We developed and executed a multi-layered marketing and communications strategy to:

  • Articulate the value of the biomarker test to different stakeholder groups

  • Build and manage high-profile partnerships with governing bodies, including the RFU, World Rugby and British Cycling

  • Create content that could educate, engage and inform; from elite performance staff to concerned parents at grassroots level

  • Lead ambassador and press engagement campaigns, including high-impact appearances and interviews with athletes like former England Rugby Captain and British and Irish Lion, Courtney Lawes

  • Translate complex data and science into actionable, accessible content for sport scientists, media, and healthcare audiences

  • Drive national and international press coverage across BBC, Daily Mail, The Times and more

We also supported Marker’s entrance into new strategic areas, including para sport and schools, aligning with broader health and safety agendas and enhancing long-term impact potential.

the impact

With SSA’s support, Marker Diagnostics has become a recognised voice in the global conversation around concussion care. Our work has helped Marker secure new strategic partnerships across Olympic and Paralympic sport, as well as delivering brand and product education at multiple levels of sport, from academies to national teams.

Marker is now positioned for ongoing commercial and clinical growth, with a credible presence across performance, community sport, and health sectors. Importantly, the story of Marker is now understood and accessible to the audiences who need to hear it most, and trusted by the organisations who can put it into action.
