adidas City Runs 1 Hour 2021

Sport Science Agency has been working with The Midnight Club to provide sport science experiences and content for adidas since 2018. In that time we have supported the adidas City Runs 1 hour twice, in 2019 and 2021. For 2021, our focus was on the launch of the Adizero Adios Pro 2 and helping runners to understand its performance advantages.

To explain the benefits of the shoe, runners were provided with the opportunity to try a pair for their 1-hour race and Sport Science Agency provided them with a Stryd power meter. Within one hour of returning their power meters, each participant had received an email with a breakdown of their own performance across a number of key metrics normally only available to elite runners.

BACKGROUND

 

Elite runners are regularly tested and their running and physiology are monitored to ensure continued performance improvements. Amateurs don’t often get this opportunity, but the participants of the adidas City Run 1 Hour got a peak at the type of data and insights that are normally limited to the worlds best. During the 60 minute race, the Stryd device collected data about the runners’ performance for our team to analyse and turn into insight for each runner. The focus was on power, form power, leg spring stiffness, vertical oscillation, ground contact time and cadence. Each runner received a report featuring the data from ten different metrics along with some pointers about how to improve their own performance.


THE RESULTS

 

Each runner who took part received an email of their own results within minutes of completing the event and with information that linked their performance with the benefits of the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2. The insight was so popular that each email was opened an average of 5.76 times.
