Active Ageing Research

Active Ageing Research (AAR) is a research group led by Professor Afroditi Stathi of the University of Birmingham. The group brings together some of the leading experts in the area of ageing and activity from around the world. Their aim is to create evidence based, cost effective intervention programmes which help older adults maintain their independence via physical activity.

AAR has two major research studies, REACT (REtirement in ACTion) and ACE (Active, Connected, Engaged). REACT is a community-based group physical activity and behavioural maintenance programme. It combines exercise, education and social activities designed for older adults starting to show mobility decline. ACE investigates how older adult volunteers can support their peers to become more physically and socially active within their communities and prevent a decline in their mobility.

SSA has worked with AAR to develop its brand, website, and communication content including blogs, emails and infographics.

Brand

AAR was established to pioneer quality, real-world research that will positively impact millions of older adults through cost effective physical activity programmes.  The research will help older adults maintain their quality of life for longer and also support reduced systemic health care costs.  SSA worked with the AAR team to develop a consistent brand that could be used across all of its research studies.

Our objective was to create a dynamic brand identity that drew inspiration from the activities and individuals involved in AAR. Each individual mark identifies with the research study or overarching organisation but also work together. For ACE we have also developed a corresponding ACTIF logo to cater for the Welsh part of the research study.

WEBSITE

The objective of the AAR website was to present the research objectives and studies of the group in a way that a wide range of potential audiences could engage with. This includes participants, delivery partners, academics, health care providers and  funders.

Utilising the fantastic imagery and video from Alex Rotas Photography, we were able to build a customer journey for each study as well as the overarching research group. The website now acts as a hub for all of the activities of AAR and is designed so that it can be extended with future research as required.

THE RESULTS

The new AAR brand with sub-brands for REACT and ACE have brought the different projects together with a consistent look and feel. This has been applied to all content from presentations to website to infographics. This enhances the professionalism and image that AAR has and also helps portray messages to stakeholders. The website is now the online home for AAR.
